Steroids are taken by the bodybuilders, powerlifters, athletes, weight lifters and other common people to improve strength, enhance performance, boost stamina. Anabolic androgenic steroids are usually used for cutting, bulking, dieting cycle. Without a proper prescription, buying anabolic drugs are illegal. Using AAS for performance enhancement purpose is also an illicit act. Though the drugs act well, according to the users’ goals, there are many short and long term, potential side effects occurred. Some effects are reversible and some are permanent.

Why is steroid abused?

Anabolic androgenic steroids are classified under Schedule III Controlled substances by Steroid Control Acts in the United States of America. Many countries have strict laws against AAS as the U.S. Though the individual causes no harm to anyone else or himself after taking AAS, still, it is considered as a steroid abuse and against the violation of a Federal Act. In the U.S prescription is required to use AAS for a medical emergency and the case should be approved by the Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Most of the youngsters start to use AAS on the school stage itself in order to maintain their physique with potent, muscle size, strength, endurance and reduce stubborn fat. Some of them use AAS for faster recovery from any injury. Bodybuilders use the Anabolic steroids as performance enhancers which are not legally permitted. Dependence, addiction and abuse are always possible with anabolic drugs. So, while handling the drugs, the users should be careful about the dose, cycle, etc. irrespective of the purpose of use.

Anabolic Steroids side effects:

There are possible serious side effects encountered in steroid abuse. The side effects are both long and short term, it affects both physical and psychological conditions. The possible physical side effects of steroid abuse are fluid retention, liver damage, sexual dysfunction, high blood pressure, increased LDL levels, severe acne, hair thinning, baldness, increased risk of HIV by sharing the needles. Depression, Delusions, Nervousness, Mood swings, and aggression are the noticeable psychological side effects. Especially women will have masculinity effects say deepened voice, excessive hair growth on face and body, menstrual irregularities and Infertility.

Adolescents are victims of steroid abuse. If the user does not know how to use the steroid properly, his/her teen may become under developed and puberty issues may arise. Since AAS has the tendency to make the bones brittle, the steroid abuse will develop a huge problem in the future.

How to curb the AAS usage?

The steroid addicts should be educated about the dangers, harmful effects of AAS. Bodybuilders, Athletes and other common people must understand that they can excel in their field without any steroids. Once they start to focus on their diet, exercise, overall health, then they will forget about the usage. The addicts are recommended with many programs that initiate with detoxification. While withdrawing the AAS, it produces various withdrawal symptoms such as Fatigue, Loss of appetite, Headache, Insomnia, changes in libido, Joint and muscle pain. The symptoms will start to gradually decrease soon after stopping the intake of AAS. Psychological side effects can be treated with psychotherapy, counseling, and psychiatric treatment. The victim can come out of the Dependence, addiction, and abuse of steroids with the help of medical and natural treatments.
